Bartholomew's Reading Adventure
by Dr. Gillette Elvgren, Jr.
Tucson Festival of Books, March 13-14, 2010
University of Arizona campus - Children's Area [map]
Bart's mom is frustrated with his lack of interest in reading. She's tried everything. In desperation she takes Bart to the doctor-Doctor Seuss, who succeeds in motivating Bart to read a story. But if Bartholomew wants to find out what the ending is, he has to jump into the book and become a part of the story. This production does not use Seuss stories, but does re-create much of the rhyming and high energy zaniness humor that typifies Seuss' stories. Through audience participation, Bartholomew learns about the various parts of a story, how they happen, and ultimately appreciates the written word.
